GREELEY, Colo. – On Friday, October 4, 2024, at approximately 6:45 AM, the Weld County Regional Communication Center (WCRCC) received multiple 911 calls about a serious two-vehicle accident on Highway 34, near Highway 257, during which a passenger truck rolled multiple times. Several Greeley Police Officers and other first responders arrived on scene shortly after to assist.

Additional ambulances and police units were requested to the scene due to the number of injured persons and Highway 34 was shut down in both directions. Four of the five people in the truck that rolled were ejected during the accident. All five injured adults were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two passengers were pronounced deceased a short time later. Two additional passengers were admitted to a local hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured, remained on scene, and is cooperating with the investigation. Due to the accident involving multiple fatalities and serious injuries, the Greeley Police Department Traffic Unit responded to the scene and will be leading the investigation. At this time, it appears that excessive speed, dangerous driving, and unrestrained occupants were contributing factors to the accident.

Highway 34 eastbound was reopened shortly after the injured persons had been taken from the scene. Highway 34 westbound remained closed for several additional hours while the GPD Traffic Unit investigated. The driver of the truck, a 48-year-old male, was not ejected during the accident. He has also been admitted to a local hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is on-going. The identities of the deceased persons will be released by the Weld County Coroner pending next-of-kin notifications. We will do a follow up release soon with additional information about the accident and any applicable criminal charges. No further information will be released today.

If you have any information about this accident and have not yet spoken with officers, please call the Greeley Police Department Traffic Unit at 970-350-9605.

We share our thoughts and condolences to Castle Rock Fire and Rescue for the loss of one of their own. 💔💔It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Firefighter EMT Andrew Koldeway following a medical condition related to a brief illness.

Koldeway joined CRFD in February 2023 and has been a firefighter for 21 years.

“Our hearts go out to his family, friends and colleagues as they navigate this unimaginable loss,” said Fire Chief Norris Croom.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. CRFD will provide information on how the community can provide donations or support for Koldeway’s family in the coming days.

The family has requested privacy as we navigate this difficult time.

☑️ this out…

One of our very own, Lt. Kyle Einspahr was honored as a “Distinguished Alumni of the Class of 2004” at University’s Homecoming football game last week! He was one of two people to receive this honor!

Kyle was asked to tour the school where he was then surprised with his own plaque that will live forever in the hallway of the school. He then was asked to go out on the field where he was announced and honored! Congratulations, Lt!

Thank you, Bryson Thomas for the pictures of that night!

Not only are Greeley Firefighters passionate about learning and training themselves, we have a lot of skilled firefighters here at GFD that are passionate in teaching firefighters at the entry level.

Firefighter Colton Adams was the lead instructor of the FRFC 24-2 Forcible Entry Module. He was joined with Pat McCarthy and Blake Weishel from GFD and other instructors from other fire departments partnered with the FRFC Fire Academy.

Nice work guys! These recruits are lucky to learn from the best 💪🏻

“This was our view of the fire this morning. We spent the night assigned to structure protection in the western part of the Crystal Lakes Community. We were released this morning and returned to Greeley as more resources were beginning to show up from the forest service and other departments from around Colorado.”
